Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you might want to know before booking your car in — and honest answers.

What services does Darrens Garage Services offer?

We're a full-service independent garage: vehicle servicing (interim and full), repairs, engine diagnostics, brakes and clutches, tyres and wheel alignment, batteries and car electrics, exhausts, steering and suspension — on all makes and models. MOT testing is coming soon.

Do you do MOT tests?

Our MOT bay is coming soon to Belmore Road. In the meantime we carry out pre-MOT checks and any repairs your car needs to pass. Join our newsletter on the homepage to be notified the moment MOT testing opens.

Where are you located?

Unit 1, 64 Belmore Road, Eastbourne, East Sussex BN22 8BP — just off Seaside, close to the town centre. There's a map with directions on our homepage.

What are your opening hours?

Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 6:00pm. We're closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

How do I book my car in?

Call us on 01323 724241, message us on WhatsApp, or use the contact form on the website — whichever suits you. We'll confirm a time that works for you.

Do you work on all makes and models?

Yes. Petrol and diesel, hatchbacks to 4x4s, French, German, Japanese and everything in between — our mechanics work on all makes and models every day.

How often should I get my car serviced?

Most manufacturers recommend a service every 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. If you mostly do short town journeys, an interim service every 6 months helps protect the engine.

Will servicing at an independent garage affect my warranty?

No — under UK block exemption rules you're free to service your car at an independent garage without invalidating the manufacturer's warranty, as long as quality parts and the correct schedule are used. That's exactly what we do.

My engine warning light is on — can I still drive?

A steady amber light usually means you should get it checked soon; a flashing or red light means stop as soon as it's safe and call us. Our diagnostics find the actual cause rather than just clearing the code.

How do I know if my brakes need attention?

Squealing or grinding noises, a spongy pedal, the car pulling to one side when braking, or a longer stopping distance are all warning signs. Pop in — we'll inspect them and show you exactly what we find.

Do you repair punctures?

Yes — where the damage is within the repairable area of the tyre we carry out safe, permanent repairs to British Standard. If it isn't repairable, we'll fit a quality replacement to suit your budget.

What's wheel alignment and do I need it?

Alignment sets your wheels to the exact angles the manufacturer intended. If the car pulls to one side or your tyres wear unevenly on one edge, alignment is usually the cure — and it pays for itself in tyre life and fuel.

My car struggles to start in the morning — is it the battery?

Very possibly, but slow starts can also point to the alternator or starter motor. We test the whole starting and charging system free of charge before recommending anything.

Do you supply and fit car batteries?

Yes — we test your existing battery first, and if it needs replacing we fit a quality battery with your car's settings preserved.

How much will my repair cost?

We always diagnose first, then give you a clear price and explanation before any work starts. No surprises — if we find something extra, we call you before touching it.

Is Darrens Garage Services really family-run?

Yes — we're a family business with over 18 years of trading in Eastbourne, and most of our work comes from repeat customers and their recommendations.

Can I wait while my car is worked on?

For smaller jobs like tyres or diagnostics you're welcome to wait. For bigger jobs we'll agree a pick-up time — most routine work is done the same day.

Do you offer advice over the phone or WhatsApp?

Of course. Describe the symptoms (or send a photo/video on WhatsApp) and we'll tell you honestly whether it needs looking at urgently or can wait.
